Japan’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Yasutoshi Nishimura, said Thursday that his country’s wish is for the G7 to adopt a coordinated approach to prevent China’s «economic coercion» of its trading partners.
«We hope that effective responses to economic coercion will be an important point at this year’s G7 summit,» Yasutoshi was quoted as saying by Japan’s Sankei media.
In this regard, the head of the economic portfolio warned that the economic power of authoritarian countries is a «big weapon», so he called for the need to strengthen economic security and deterrence in cooperation with other countries.
He stressed that «strengthening cooperation in export control is extremely important» so that technologies do not represent a threat to security.
«The qualitative and quantitative strengthening of military power, including the expansion of military spending and the buildup of nuclear forces, is increasing the threat to neighboring countries,» added Yasutoshi.
