Iranian authorities have announced the execution on Saturday of two more demonstrators involved in protests against the September death in custody of young Mahsa Amini for allegedly wearing the Islamic headscarf incorrectly.
The executed, identified as Mohamed Mehdi Karami and Mohamed Hosseini, were convicted for the death of a security guard during one of the protests in November, Iran’s Mizan judicial agency announced.
These executions bring to four the number of protesters executed since the outbreak of the protests of the young Iranian Kurdish, which have shaken the country as not seen in decades and have already left more than 470 dead, according to local NGOs.
The Iranian authorities, while acknowledging occasional excessive use of force on some occasions, have claimed that these protests have been fueled by «troublemakers» and foreign powers.
The Iranian judiciary also announced Saturday that prominent photographer Yalda Moaiery has been sentenced to two months of community service for supporting the protests. Moaiery will work as a street sweeper for two months at a women’s park and will have to write a 100-page essay on an Iranian cleric.
The verdict was communicated by the photographer herself through a message on the Instagram network, accompanied by an image in which she appears wearing an orange uniform during the performance of her punishment.
The sentence also bans her from leaving the country for the next two years, and she may not use her cell phone or social networks, nor reside in the capital, Tehran, for the same period of time.
