The Peruvian Ministry of Health reported on Saturday that 36 people have been hospitalized since January 4 for injuries related to the protests against the ouster of former president Pedro Castillo.

Of the total number of hospitalized patients, 34 are in the Puno region, one in Arequipa and another in Apurímac, reports the official news agency, Andina.

The report also includes five medical discharges linked to these protests, two in Lima, one in Arequipa and one in Junín. All the patients are receiving permanent medical attention, the Ministry said.

The Ministry reiterated its call for «social calm» and its commitment to attend to all those whose integrity is affected.

Also this Saturday, the Peruvian National Police (PNP) reported the transfer to Lima by plane of four officers injured during clashes with demonstrators who tried to take over the Inca Manco Capac International Airport of Juliaca, in Puno.

The officers used tear gas against the demonstrators, who threw stones. One of the policemen, non-commissioned officer David Chávez Cabezas, was injured in the neck and Víctor Raúl Quispe López has an eye injury. Both are in serious condition. Carlos Daniel Sanca Quispe was transported to Lima with burns to his right hand. All three are admitted to the PNP central hospital to «guarantee their prompt recovery».

The San Roman Health Network has reported twelve civilians wounded, one of them hit by a bullet in these disturbances. The bullet wounded has a reserved prognosis.

The Peruvian Attorney General’s Office opened this Friday an investigation against the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, as well as against three members of her Executive to clarify the death of 28 civilians during clashes between security forces and demonstrators during the protests that shook the country in December.
