The Russian Army has assured Saturday that it is complying with the unilateral ceasefire in Ukraine decreed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and accused Ukrainian forces of continuing military operations.
«Russian forces have been complying with the ceasefire along the entire line of contact,» Russian Army spokesman General Igor Konashenkov said at a press conference reported by Interfax.
Ukraine considers the ceasefire declaration, which came into force on Friday, to be nothing more than a Kremlin maneuver to gain time, and has already denounced at least one Russian attack on its forces despite the ceasefire.
Specifically, the governor of the Sumi region, Dimitro Khivitsky, indicated in his Telegram account that the Russian Armed Forces attacked the locality of Shaliginsk on two occasions throughout the day on Friday, although he ruled out any casualties.
The Sumi region was recaptured by Ukrainian forces in early April. Since then, Russia has carried out several air strikes against the area.
Konashenkov, for his part, assured that the Russian Army «will continue to enforce the ceasefire», which will remain in force until next midnight, despite the fact that «the Kiev regime continues to shell Russian settlements and positions».
