
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has assured Friday in a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Oleksii Reznikov, that he will urge Washington’s allies to deliver ditional anti-aircraft defense systems to Ukraine.
«Secretary Austin reiterated his commitment to encourage allies and partners to make additional donations of air defense systems, combat vehicles and other critical capabilities to support Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity for as long as necessary,» read a statement released by the Defense Department.
In this regard, Lloyd discussed with Reznikov the U.S. commitment to provide more than $3 billion (2.8 billion euros) in additional security assistance.
This defense package would include Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, additional armored vehicles, artillery systems and munitions, as well as other key capabilities, the Defense Department detailed in the missive.
All in all, Austin and Reznikov have pledged to remain in «close contact,» all while the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on Feb. 24, 2022, continues.
