The Colombian Attorney General’s Office has issued a resolution suspending all arrest warrants against the three individuals recognized as representatives of the Central General Staff of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrilla group, according to the Colombian newspaper ‘El Tiempo’.
Resolution 00003 dated January 4 «ordered the suspension, for a period of fifteen (15) days, of each and every one of the arrest warrants, including those for extradition purposes, that have been issued or that will be issued against the three citizens recognized by the President of the Republic as representative members of the Central General Staff of the FARC-EP», according to the newspaper.
These persons are Willinton Heano Gutiérrez, ‘Olmedo’; Carlos Eduardo García Téllez, ‘Andrei’, and Sandra Milena Niño Guerrero, chosen by the guerrillas as spokespersons and representatives.
The resolution of the Prosecutor’s Office is directly linked to Resolution 343 of President Gustavo Petro «in which he recognized three citizens as representative members of the dissident structure that calls itself the Central General Staff of the FARC-EP, for a period of fifteen (15) days».
Afterwards, the Presidency «sent to the Attorney General of the Nation the request for the suspension of arrest warrants that have been issued or will be issued against such persons», according to the Attorney General’s Office.
The initiative is based on Petro’s decision «to develop exploratory and confidential approaches to advance dialogues and negotiations and reach agreements with this organized armed group, in accordance with the constitutional and legal powers conferred by article 189 of the Constitution and Law 2272 of 2022».
The measure has already been communicated to all national and international authorities, including Interpol, and is part of the contacts opened by Petro with the armed groups to advance in his proposal for «total peace».
