Pro-Russian authorities in the Donetsk region have reported that a rocket attack launched early this morning by Ukraine caused damage to the Starobeshevskaya thermal power plant in Novi Svit, where at least two people may have been trapped in the rubble.
«Emergency services are working at the site of the shelling clearing the debris. Presumably, at least two people, employees of the station, may be under the wreckage,» the pro-Russian administration in the area told Russia’s TASS news agency in a statement on Sunday.
The attack was reportedly carried out with a multiple rocket launching system, six of which hit the power station and its vicinity, according to an additional statement from the Russian agency of the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of War Crimes Issues of Ukraine.
The power plant is one of the largest energy facilities in eastern Ukraine and supplies power to central and southern Donetsk, disputed between Moscow and Kiev since 2014 and now incorporated into Russia following a referendum declared illegal by Ukraine and its allies.
