Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro has denied responsibility for the assault on institutions in Brasilia by his supporters.
Bolsonaro, more than seven hours after the attack on public buildings, has assured that during his mandate he has «always» complied with the Constitution, «respecting and defending the laws, democracy, transparency and sacred freedom».
«Furthermore, I repudiate the accusations, without evidence, attributed to me by the current chief executive of Brazil (Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva),» the former president wrote in a series of messages posted on his Twitter profile.
Bolsonaro also compared the events of Sunday, which he described as «depredations and invasions» with the demonstrations called by the left», assuring that «they «escape the rule», since «peaceful demonstrations, in the form of law, are part of democracy».
