Pro-Russian authorities in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine announced Monday that they have taken control of the town of Bajmutske, south of Soledar, in their advance towards the town of Bajmut, which is for Kiev a symbol of the country’s «indomitability».
«Today, January 9, 2023, Bajmutske has been liberated on the territory of Donetsk by the Russian Armed Forces,» the army said in a message on its Telegram account.
Russian forces are thus continuing their operations with the aim of finally seeing Bajmut fall despite unsuccessful attempts to seize the area so far.
This city has recently become one of the hottest spots in the conflict in Ukraine. Authorities in Kiev have repeatedly detailed that it is in Bakhmut that Russia is now concentrating almost all its efforts in order to seize the town.
