Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev has assured that Russia is not at war with Ukraine and that the conflict in Eastern Europe is rather an attempt by Western powers to confront Moscow through Kiev.
«The events in Ukraine are not a confrontation between Moscow and Kiev, it is a military confrontation of NATO, and above all the United States and the United Kingdom, against Russia,» Patrushev has asserted during an interview with the Russian newspaper ‘AiF’.
In this line, the head of the Russian National Security accused the leaders of the Atlantic Alliance of «fearing direct contact» with Russia and that for this reason they are instrumentalizing the Ukrainians, whom they are leading «to certain death».
«We are not at war with Ukraine because, by definition, we cannot have hatred towards ordinary Ukrainians,» insisted the senior Russian official, who appealed at this point to the ties of union between the cultures and traditions of the two countries, as reported by the TASS news agency.
Thus, Patrushev defended that the «special military operation» in Ukraine is serving both to «liberate» some regions of the neighboring country, and to put an end to the «bloody experiment» of the Western powers, which do nothing but try to «destroy the brotherly Ukrainian people».
For him, the moment the Ukrainian population realizes that «the West is fighting Russia with its hands, the more lives will be saved.» «Many people have realized this a long time ago, but they are afraid to say so for fear of reprisals,» he has warned.
«The West, for the sake of its ambitions, is practically destroying the Ukrainian people, forcing the active population to die on the battlefield and driving the rest of the population into poverty,» Patrushev has concluded.
