Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian on Tuesday refused to host military exercises of the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CTSO) throughout 2023.
Pashinian explained that he refused to approve the training as a sign of disapproval of the blockade of a «vital supply artery» to the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Pashinian thus shows his rejection of the measures taken by Russia, which he accuses of «looking the other way» in relation to Azerbaijan’s growing provocations over Nagorno-Karabakh.
«Armenia does not consider it appropriate to hold the CSTO exercises on its territory, so they will not take place,» he said during a press conference, according to Armenpress news agency reports.
In this regard, he criticized the organization for refusing to «condemn Azerbaijan’s actions» and lashed out at Russia for «ceasing to act as a security guarantor» for Armenia.
