UK Intelligence on Tuesday ruled out that Russian Army forces will manage to encircle the town of Bakhmut in the near future despite their advances in the area, especially around the town of Soledar in eastern Ukraine.
«Despite the complexity of the situation around the Bakhmut area, it is unlikely that Russia will manage to encircle the town in the near future,» the British Ministry of Defense has asserted in a Twitter message.
Thus, it referred to the latest data collected by the British Intelligence and pointed out that during the last four days, Russian troops and members of the Wagner Group have advanced towards Soledar, a city that «is in their hands» almost in its entirety.
Soledar is located about 10 kilometers north of Bajmut, which is currently one of the main targets of the Russian Army. In recent days, fighting has mainly taken place at the entrance to several long-distance tunnels (about 200 kilometers) belonging to salt mines.
«Despite increasing pressure on Bakhmut, Russia does not appear to be able to encircle it in the short term as Ukrainian troops hold their defensive positions and control supply routes,» the British government said.
