Chinese authorities have suspended the issuance of short-term visas for South Koreans wishing to visit the country, in reaction to similar measures imposed against Chinese travelers.
The Chinese Embassy in South Korea said Tuesday that it will suspend visas, whether for work, leisure or health reasons, saying the move was prompted by Seoul’s entry restrictions on Chinese citizens.
«In accordance with Chinese national instructions, the Chinese Embassy and Consulate in South Korea will suspend the issuance of short-term visas for visits to China by Korean citizens, including visits, business exchanges, tourism, medical care and general personal circumstances,» the statement reads.
The office added that the above «will be adjusted depending on the situation in which Korea cancels its discriminatory entry restrictions against China».
Before the end of the year, South Korea indicated that it would require a PCR test or a negative COVID-19 antigen test for travelers from China, joining sanctions imposed by other European and Asian countries.
