A Mexican federal judge has temporarily suspended the extradition of drug trafficker José Rodolfo Villarreal, alias ‘El Gato’, leader of the Beltrán Leyva cartel in Nuevo León, to the United States, where he is wanted for the murder of a man in Southlake, Texas.
A district judge, Juan Mateo Brieba de Castro, has determined that the drug trafficker will be temporarily detained and at the judge’s disposal, so he cannot be extradited after being arrested last Sunday in Mexico City.
Rodolfo Villarreal is on the FBI’s list of the ten most wanted fugitives for being linked, like his brother, Ramón Villarreal, to the murder of the lawyer of the former leader of the Gulf cartel, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, as reported by the newspaper ‘Milenio’.
According to authorities, ‘El Gato’ is involved in moving cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamines to the United States, as well as being the leader of the Beltran Leyva cartel in Nuevo Leon, one of the most bloodthirsty and powerful criminal organizations in Mexico.
Rodolfo Villarreal is the brother of Ramón Villarreal, alias ‘El Mon’, who was extradited to the United States for being linked to the murder of Juan Jesús Guerrero Chapa, alleged lawyer of Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, former leader of the Gulf Cartel, according to the newspaper ‘El Universal’.
