Two days after his supporters attacked institutions in Brasilia, Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro has used his social networks to share messages questioning his defeat in last year’s elections and attacking the Supreme Court and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
Bolsonaro has shared on Tuesday night for a few hours a series of messages on his Facebook account claiming that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was not elected by the Brazilian people in the elections, but by the Supreme Court and the TSE. Two hours later, he deleted the content.
The shared content, deleted after the commotion caused, contained the excerpt of an interview to the pro-Bolsonarist prosecutor of Mato Grosso do Sul Felipe Gimenez in which he stated that Lula da Silva was elected by the judges of the Supreme Court and the TSE, under a caption that deepened this theory.
Bolsonaro’s new offensive to question his defeat in the last elections takes place two days after his followers stormed the headquarters of the Presidency, the Congress and the Supreme Court, and at a time when Lula’s government has detected the possibility of a new Bolsonaro offensive.
Through social networks, especially via Telegram, bolsonarismo has been calling to demonstrate again in the streets of the main capitals to «retake power», including in the Esplanade of the Ministries in Brasília, main scenario of the anti-democratic acts of Sunday.
For the moment, some 1,500 people have been arrested for Sunday’s events, for which a Bolsonaro who is still in the United States convalescing from recurring abdominal pains after the stabbing he was the victim of in the midst of the 2018 election campaign has been held directly responsible.
Several congressmen are proposing the elaboration of a special commission in both chambers to analyze the degree of Bolsonaro’s involvement in these attacks and have therefore demanded the Supreme Court to order his extradition.
Meanwhile, the arrest of Anderson Torres, the secluded Security Secretary of Brasília and last Minister of Justice of Bolsonarismo has been ordered for his alleged connivance with the assailants. On vacation in the United States, he has announced that he will return to Brazil to be at the disposal of the authorities.
