Moldova will hold the second meeting of leaders of the European Political Community on June 1, confirmed the spokesman of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, promoter together with French President Emmanuel Macron of the initiative to maintain political and security dialogue between all the countries of the European continent.
The venue was already announced at the first summit of this forum last October in the Czech Republic, when the participants agreed that Moldova, Spain and the United Kingdom would host, in that order, the next meetings of the European Political Community scheduled every six months.
This new format of intergovernmental dialogue without fixed structures is intended to consolidate peace and security on the continent and strengthen alliances on key issues such as energy. The first meeting in Prague was a success, bringing together leaders from 40 countries who showed an image of unity in the midst of Europe’s struggle with Russia over its military aggression against Ukraine and demonstrated Moscow’s international isolation.
The aim then was to consolidate the project and give it continuity with a calendar of forthcoming summits to ensure that progress is made in the commitment to strengthen cooperation between Europeans.
The Moldovan president, Maria Sandu, thanked her country for having been chosen to host the next meeting in Chisinau, in a gesture to this neighboring country of Ukraine, which received from the EU-27 the status of candidate to join the EU last June, at the same time as Kiev.
