South Korea and the United States will conduct a series of joint military nuclear simulation exercises next February to enhance and strengthen cooperation between the two countries, the South Korean Defense Ministry has announced.
On the agenda, Washington and Seoul plan to hold 11-day military drills, as well as a test of a solid-propellant space rocket and the launch of a first military surveillance satellite, Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday.
The maneuvers will be a simulation exercise, assuming North Korea’s use of nuclear weapons, and will be led by the two countries’ Deterrence Strategy Committee. Thus, the U.S. and South Korea plan to conduct about 20 military exercises in the first half of the year.
These simulation exercises have not been conducted since September 2021. Seoul and Washington agreed at a bilateral defense meeting to hold such deterrence maneuvers annually, as reported by ‘The Korea Times’.
