Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday that the «open-door rhetoric» repeatedly expressed by the Atlantic Alliance «is not enough» for Kiev, which expects more concrete steps.
«Simply supporting Ukraine in the form of open-door rhetoric is not enough. It is not enough to motivate our state and, to be more specific, it is not enough to motivate our soldiers,» Zelenski has stressed.
At this point, the Ukrainian president alluded to the steps taken by the European Union – which in June granted Ukraine the status of candidate for accession to the bloc – and stressed that such decisions do motivate the country in its fight against Russia, reports UNIAN.
«We expect much stronger steps. We expect more than just an open door. Things like candidacy to the European Union are motivating,» Zelenski said, warning that Ukraine cannot be «fed with promises».
The discussion on Ukraine’s accession to the Atlantic Alliance has been revived more strongly than ever since the outbreak of the war, initiated by Russia at the end of February. Some member states of the bloc have come out in favor of Kiev’s annexation.
