The Kremlin on Thursday applauded the «enormous efforts» made by Russian forces in the area of Soledar, a strategic and symbolic locality in eastern Ukraine, but urged not to lower their guard, because «much work remains to be done» in the area.

«It is too early to stop or to rub our hands together,» the main spokesman of the Russian Presidency, Dmitry Peskov, told the media on Thursday, alluding to a front of combat about which contradictory information has arrived in recent days. The Russian Defense Ministry assured on Wednesday that its forces had blockaded Soledar on several fronts.

The Wagner Group, formed by mercenaries and allied with Moscow, however, gave the area as captured, the result of actions that Peskov has described as «heroic». «Not only in Soledar, but also in all areas where offensive operations are underway,» he added, according to the TASS agency.

Asked about the work of the Wagner Group, the spokesman replied: «We admire and appreciate our heroes».
