Russia’s Federal Service for Telecommunications Supervision, Roskomnadzor, has reported that since the signing of the law targeting the broadcasting and propaganda of LGBT content a month ago, it has reported a total of seven films for breaching the legislation.
«In the month that has passed since the signing of the laws, (…) Roskomnadzor filed (…) complaints to seven films, where signs of LGBT propaganda are seen,» detailed the head of the State Duma’s Information Policy Committee, Alexander Jinshtein.
According to Jinshtein, before the adoption of the law, officers of the Committee met with representatives of major cinemas and platforms to discuss «mechanisms to implement the new rules».
Jinshtein recalled that, for the time being, Roskomnadzor is limited to sending «concrete and well-founded complaints about specific fragments or works» without holding anyone criminally responsible, as reported by the Russian agency TASS.
On the other hand, the representative of the Information Policy Committee of the Duma (lower house) has pointed out that some digital platforms have censored scenes from the series Euphoria and Sex and the City ‘motu proprio’, without being required to do so by the authorities.
«Roskomnadzor has no complaints about these fragments,» said Jinshtein, who detailed that «no one has demanded» these platforms to apply censorship and change the word «gay» to «boy».
