Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured Thursday that he has not received any request from the UK regarding the two British citizens missing in the town of Soledar, near Bakhmut and in dispute between Russia and Ukraine.
Peskov has informed that Moscow could be ready to collaborate with London to find the whereabouts of both missing, although he has stressed that, for the moment, he is not aware of «any contact», according to the Russian agency TASS.
«In any case, if there is any request, a request for assistance, of course, this will be considered,» Peskov confirmed, referring not only to Moscow’s collaboration to find the missing, but also to repatriate their bodies in case of death.
Finally, Peskov acknowledged that Moscow knows that both Britons were in Soledar to fight on the Ukrainian side and that personal documents of theirs were found on the ground, although he assured that Russia has no further details.
«This is an area where hostilities continue, so sometimes it is difficult to get information quickly,» the Kremlin spokesman said.
The Ukrainian National Police confirmed on Monday the disappearance of Andrew Bagshaw and Christopher Perry, two British volunteers in Soledar, scene of intense clashes in the last hours and a locality that both Russia and Ukraine have assured to have under control.
The British authorities encouraged the population during the early stages of the war to join the squads for foreigners promoted by the Ukrainian Army. However, the Minister of Defense, Ben Wallace, had to come forward to warn that the situation in Ukraine was «very dangerous».
