Former Peruvian president Pedro Castillo, through his lawyer, has published a letter on social networks requesting a meeting with the high-level mission of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in the prison where he is imprisoned.
«Compatriots: since my arbitrary and illegal confinement and, in view of the visit of the high-level mission of the IACHR, I publish this letter where my legal team and I request again an audience in the Barbadillo prison to give them details of my unjust imprisonment and political persecution», he has expressed in his Twitter profile.
In the letter, Castillo’s lawyer, Wilfredo Robles Rivera, asks the IACHR mission to visit the former president in Barbadillo prison. «It should be noted that the technical visit of the IACHR last December did not take into consideration the legal presence of Mr. Castillo Torres», it reads.
Castillo, who had already requested a meeting with the organization in December, has been in the Barbadillo prison, in Ate, on the outskirts of Lima, since December 17, after the Judiciary ordered 18 months of preventive detention against him.
The Peruvian Justice decreed preventive imprisonment against the former Peruvian president while he is being investigated for allegedly committing crimes of rebellion, conspiracy, abuse of authority and disturbance of the public tranquility.
