The German Federal Government confirmed Friday that it is sending four sapper tanks to Ukraine, along with other specialized mine clearance systems and mobile heating systems.
The German government has updated the list of equipment supplied to Ukraine since the outbreak of the war in February, which now amounts to more than 2.2 million euros.
Berlin has also announced that in the future it plans to send Kiev four dozen MARDER battle tanks, Patriot air defense systems and around 100,000 first aid kits.
Germany has been the target of pressure from Ukraine since the beginning of the war, urging it to supply battle tanks. Berlin, for its part, advocates that this decision should be taken jointly by the Atlantic Alliance as a whole.
These pressures have intensified in recent days after Polish President Andrzej Duda announced from Ukrainian territory the dispatch of German-made Leopard tanks to the Polish army.
The Polish authorities themselves have acknowledged that, with this decision, they are seeking to clear the way for other international powers to join in the supply of artillery to Ukraine, although they did not mention Germany directly.
