The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plans to deploy international inspectors to all of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, reinforcing its presence in the country after Russia damaged power lines in much of the territory in recent months, ‘The Wall Street Journal’ has reported.
OEIA director Rafael Grossi plans to visit Ukraine next week to deploy international inspectors to all of the country’s nuclear power plants, reinforcing surveillance as he has already done at the Zaporiyia plant in the southeast of the country.
In particular, Grossi will send two or three inspectors to the Rivne and Jmelnitsky plants, both in the west of the country, Ukrainian officials and Western diplomats told the newspaper.
The power lines of the latter two plants were damaged in a missile bombardment on November 15 that plunged both into crisis.
In addition, inspectors will also be deployed to Chernobyl, the site of the largest nuclear catastrophe in history in 1986, where dangerous radioactive materials are still stored, according to officials.
