The U.S. State Department on Thursday condemned the terrorist attack allegedly carried out by Islamic State on Wednesday near the headquarters of Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry in Kabul.
«We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attack that took place in Kabul,» Department spokesman Ned Price told a news conference.
«We have seen that Islamic State has claimed responsibility. If Islamic State was indeed behind it, this is the latest horrific example of a brutal group perpetrating senseless violence against the people of Afghanistan,» he said.
Price sent his «deepest condolences to the loved ones, the families, of those who were killed in this senseless attack.
«We oppose and condemn terrorism everywhere and, of course, that is also the case in Afghanistan,» he added.
According to the Taliban, five people were killed and several wounded in the attack, while the terrorist group Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), an affiliate of the organization of the same name, which has claimed responsibility for the attack, said 20 people were killed, including diplomatic workers.
