Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksi Reznikov assured Friday that the country is already a ‘de facto’ NATO member despite not having formally joined the Alliance.
Reznikov thus indicated that «the Ukrainian Armed Forces are already part of NATO.» «‘De facto, not ‘de jure’. Because we have weapons and we know how to use them. That is why I am confident that we will accede to the Alliance in the short term,» he pointed out in an interview with the British BBC.
In this sense, he ruled out that these words are «ambiguous for both NATO and Russia» given the support given by the Alliance to Ukraine in the middle of the invasion of the territory.
He also expressed his confidence that Ukraine will receive more armament from the West, including armored vehicles and fighters, given the possibility that Russia is preparing for new offensives in the spring.
He also pointed out that Russia is losing an estimated 500 military personnel a day throughout the country. That is why he considers that Russian forces are preparing to «carry out offensives from occupied areas in the east and south of the country».
«Spring is the best time to resume operations,» he pointed out.
