The Ukrainian state energy company Energoatom has warned that Russian troops in the town of Energodar — where the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant is located — are using the homes of local residents for housing and weapons storage.
As Energoatom has detailed in a report, the Russian side is taking advantage of the fact that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not target civilian dwellings and that, despite knowing about these activities, they will continue not to attack residential buildings.
«Russian occupants in the satellite town of the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant are setting up barracks and ammunition depots in the basements of residential buildings,» the Ukrainian energy company has denounced.
Moreover, the Russian side is not only occupying residential buildings, but has also reportedly made the headquarters of the Department of Social Programs a point of deployment. It is estimated that half a hundred Russian soldiers may be living there.
Finally, Energoatom has warned that Russia is transporting its weapons in boxes similar to those of electric generators, and has asked «energy donors» to «not expose themselves» and to try to move as far away as possible from the Russian troops.
«Do not expose yourselves to danger and avoid meetings of Russian military personnel, be vigilant and careful. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are close by,» the state energy agency said, UNIAN news agency reported.
The Zaporiyia power plant, located in the town of Energodar and now controlled by the Russian authorities, has been the scene of clashes between Russia and Ukraine since the early stages of the war.
