
The Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, Brian Nichols, received this Friday in Washington a delegation of the United Platform of Venezuela, which groups the Venezuelan opposition.
At the meeting, they discussed the current process of open dialogue with the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, in a «valuable» meeting in the words of Nichols. The negotiating coordinator of the opposition, Gerardo Blyde, and members of the delegation such as Tomás Guanipa, Stalin González, Mariela Magallanes, Roberto Enríquez, Claudia Niken, Luis Emilio Rondón, Freddy Guevara and Luis Moreno were present.
«Valuable meeting with members of the Venezuelan Unitary Platform Negotiations Delegation to reaffirm the strong support of the United States for their work to bring free and fair elections to Venezuela in 2024. We support the Venezuelan people in their struggle to restore democracy,» Nichols noted on his Twitter account.
Following the meeting, the opposition-controlled parallel National Assembly has expressed its support for the meeting, «an important step in advancing free elections to restore freedom and democracy in the country».
