Ukrainian authorities on Saturday reported a Russian rocket attack in the center of the capital, Kiev, which caused damage to a «non-residential building and an «infrastructure target», although there is no record of deaths and injuries.
Authorities initially reported at least one rocket attack in the neighborhood in the Dniprovskyi (or Dnipro) district, on the left bank of the river that divides the capital into two halves, according to the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko.
«Explosions in the Dnipro district. All services are heading to the site – stay in shelters!», Klitschko tweeted on his Telegram account.
The attack was immediately verified by the capital’s military administration. «Rocket attack on the capital. Stay in shelters,» according to the message.
Shortly afterwards, the mayor confirmed that rocket debris had fallen in the Holosiiv neighborhood on the right bank of the river, with no casualties to report.
The deputy advisor to the Ukrainian Presidency, Kirilo Timoshenko, specified that the attack was directed against «critical infrastructure facilities» at around 09.30 a.m. (08.30 a.m., Spanish peninsular time) and reported that at least one target had been hit.
So far, the authorities have confirmed damage to this facility, as well as to two cars, a garage and a warehouse.
«Details are being clarified,» the adviser added on his Telegram account. «There is no preliminary information on casualties,» he added.
Shortly after the message, authorities have issued an air alert for the capital and the homonymous region.
During the last hours, the Ukrainian governor of Kharkov, Oleg Siniehubov, has denounced the impact of two Russian S-300 missiles on the industrial district of the city. The attacks were aimed at «energy and industrial objects of Kharkov and the region,» he warned.
Also this morning, the governor of the central Cherkasy region, Igor Taburets, warned that Russia could launch a «massive attack» with missiles this Saturday and urged residents to take shelter during air raid sirens.
The Ukrainian governor of Mikolaiv, Vitali Kim, announced that 17 Russian Tupolev bombers have taken off from their air bases with the intention of attacking the region.
