The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) NGO has raised to 522 the number of people killed in Iran since the outbreak of protests over the death in custody in September last year of young Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for allegedly wearing the Islamic headscarf incorrectly.

HRANA, based in the United States and specialized in monitoring the humanitarian situation in the Islamic republic, estimates that among the dead there are 70 minors and 68 Iranian police and security forces officers.

HRANA also details nearly 20,000 detainees, including 110 who risk the death penalty under Islamic law. So far four convicts have been executed in connection with these demonstrations.

The NGO Iran Human Rights maintains the death toll published five days ago: 481 dead, including 64 children and 35 women.

The Iranian government has not commented on these figures or on the NGO reports.
