An individual has been arrested at London’s Heathrow International Airport after traces of uranium were detected in his luggage, British police said.
Border police found radioactive material inside a shipment of scrap metal on December 29, which came from Pakistan and was destined for Iranian nationals living in the UK, according to The Sun.
Cheshire Police arrested an individual in his 60s on Saturday under the Terrorism Act and will remand him in custody until April.
«I want to be clear. Although this arrest has been made and based on what we know so far, this incident does not appear to be related to any kind of danger to the public,» explained Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command chief Richard Smith. «However, detectives are continuing to investigate to ensure that this is definitely the case,» he reiterated.
