The Armed Forces of Russia and Belarus have started new joint maneuvers on Monday, at a time when Ukraine continues to warn of a possible Belarusian involvement in the military offensive launched in February 2022 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The exercises, which will last until February 1, include aerial reconnaissance and surveillance, as well as cargo delivery and evacuation of wounded, among other aspects highlighted by the Belarusian Defense Ministry, reports BelTA agency.
Moscow and Minsk want to improve the coordination of their respective forces, but neither side has acknowledged that Alexander Lukashenko’s regime wants to become more directly involved in the offensive on Ukraine, despite the fact that Belarusian territory has already served as a base for operations.
The Ukrainian authorities, in fact, already consider the Belarusian authorities as another party to the conflict and fear that they are looking for some kind of excuse to intervene more openly. Not for nothing has Lukashenko repeatedly denounced risks to national security.
