Venezuela’s Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, announced Monday that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested a third arrest warrant against the founder of the Venezuelan opposition Primero Justicia party Julio Borges, currently in exile.
«In view of the appearance of new incriminating evidence we have requested an arrest warrant against Julio Borges Junyent for his participation in the coup attempt of April 30, 2019,» he has indicated this Monday, as reported by the newspaper ‘El Nacional’.
Specifically, Saab has argued that Borges has two previous warrants «for his direct participation in the theft of the Republic’s gold deposited in England and for the planning and financing of the attempted assassination against the head of state».
Likewise, he has defended that Borges «lobbied internationally» to act against Venezuela with the support of the Administration then led by former President Donald Trump, even asking for sanctions against Caracas.
This comes after Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo López, a refugee in Spain since October 2020 and also coordinator of Voluntad Popular, revealed that Borges participated in meetings to plan the events of 2019, as reported by the newspaper ‘El Universal’.
Borges, who was commissioner of Foreign Relations of the already ousted government led by Juan Guaidó, is in exile in Colombia after Venezuelan authorities accused him of participating in the alleged August 4 attack in Caracas to kill Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
