Grigori Tsejmistrenko, a 28-year-old Canadian of Ukrainian origin, has died in Ukraine as part of the war while volunteering as a medical volunteer, as confirmed by his own father, Vitali.
Tsejmistrenko, known as Greg to his friends, died last weekend in the town of Bajmut in eastern Ukraine, the scene of the latest heavy fighting between the two sides, according to Canadian broadcaster CBC.
Vitali Tsekhmistrenko has informed that his son arrived in Ukraine in January 2022, before the outbreak of the war but when Russia was concentrating large numbers of soldiers and artillery on the border, which made it possible to foresee a possible invasion.
When Russian President Vladimir Putin finally gave the order to invade Ukraine at the end of February, Grigory Tsekhmistrenko decided to volunteer his services as a doctor. Since then he has been engaged, among other things, in fundraising for basic medical supplies.
