Iranian security forces have arrested a German national for allegedly photographing an oil field in the southern Iranian province of Khuzestan, with no further details or information on the timing of the arrest having been released at this time.
According to reports in the Iranian daily ‘Jam-e Jam’, the man, who has not been identified, was arrested in the city of Omidiyé. The German Foreign Ministry has stated that it takes note of the information and that the German Embassy in Tehran is working to clarify the situation, as reported by the German news agency DPA.
The arrest comes in the context of Iran’s accusations against Western countries for allegedly fueling protests since September over the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for allegedly wearing the veil incorrectly.
