Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalni on Wednesday defended the importance of continuing to stand up to the «unscrupulous scoundrels» who rule Russia, two years after a return to Russia that was also the beginning of a detention that continues to this day.
Navalni was evacuated from Russia in August 2020, as an emergency measure to treat him in Germany for a poisoning that nearly cost him his life. He returned on January 17, 2021 and the authorities then understood that he had violated the conditions of his provisional release.
«I have spent these two years in prison,» Navalni has posted on Twitter, the main spokesman for a leader who has accumulated new convictions while seeing how the Kremlin cut off his entire organizational network, granting him the category of ‘extremist’.
Despite the pressure he is under, the oppositionist maintains that it is necessary to «save» the homeland from those who have «plundered it, wounded it, dragged it into an aggressive war» such as the one in Ukraine, launched in February 2022 by order of the president, Vladimir Putin. They have turned Russia «into a prison,» he added.
For Navalni, «any opposition to this gang (…) is important», even if it is «symbolic» as in his case. He considers that those who oppose the current political leadership are more than «the corrupt judges, the lying propagandists, the criminals of the Kremlin».
«I will not surrender my country to them and I believe that the darkness will someday fade. As long as it persists, I will do everything I can, I will try to do what is right and I urge everyone not to give up hope,» he remonstrated.
Coinciding with this anniversary, Navalni’s entourage have launched a new campaign to «free him» and «say no to war», as explained on social networks by his daughter, Dasha Navalnya, who recalled how her father chose to return to Russia despite the «risks».
Navalnya has blamed Putin for the poisoning and denounced that now Moscow wants to continue «silencing» him in prison. «But my father is not afraid and will never stop fighting,» he has warned in a video.
