Russia on Tuesday announced an expansion of sanctions against the European Union in response to the ninth sanctions package adopted by the European club and will include law enforcement agencies in its list to allow training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces within the EU mission.
Moscow has noted that the sanctions, in retaliation for recent EU actions, will affect «the leadership of law enforcement agencies of EU countries involved in the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of the EU mission to provide military assistance to Kiev.»
The Russian Foreign Ministry has also specified that the restrictions have been extended to individual members of the European Parliament, as well as to European state and commercial structures that are responsible for producing and supplying military weaponry to Kiev, TASS news agency has reported.
«The European Union continues to try to put pressure on Russia through unilateral restrictive measures (…) such actions undermine the international legal prerogatives of the UN Security Council,» Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova specified.
The EU Military Advisory Mission aims to train a total of 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers, which means a total budget of 100 million for the EU. Last January 12, more than 200 Ukrainian servicemen arrived in Spain to be trained as part of the mission.
