Swiss President and Interior Minister Alain Berset has once again denounced Russia’s «brutal attack» on Ukraine and warned that the invasion, which began at the end of February 2022, also poses a threat to international law.
Speaking at the Davos Forum, Berset assured that Switzerland will do «everything possible» to defend not only international law, but also mutilateralism in view of the upcoming meeting of the UN Security Council, where Bern will occupy a non-permanent seat for the first time, reports Swissinfo portal.
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Switzerland has set aside its historical neutrality in international conflicts to join the successive rounds of sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia in response to the invasion.
On the other hand, Berset has warned of growing social inequalities internationally, as well as the rise of populism in response precisely to the lack of «social equity.» «It’s politically toxic,» he said.
