Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal announced Wednesday the appointment of Igor Klimenko as the new Minister of Internal Affairs following the death in a plane crash of the previous incumbent, Denis Monastirski.
Klimenko, who until now served as deputy minister of the same portfolio and head of the National Police of Ukraine, replaces Monastirski, who died along with fifteen other people after a helicopter crash in the city of Brovary, in the Kiev region.
For the moment, the Ukrainian authorities do not rule out any possible scenario about the reasons for the accident, in which several children were also killed, as well as part of the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior, as Klimenko himself confirmed.
