The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, begins a trip to Kiev this Thursday to meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, with the aim of addressing «concrete measures» to strengthen European support for the country in the face of the Russian invasion, unleashed on February 24, 2022 on the orders of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
«I am on my way to Kiev to have the opportunity to meet again with the president, Volodimir Zelenski, the prime minister (Denis Shmigal) and members of parliament,» Michel said through a short video posted on his official account on the social network Twitter.
«We know that Ukrainians are resisting and fighting. Ukrainians are fighting for their land and for the future of their children, but we know that they are also fighting for our common European values and principles and for the promise of the EU, peace and prosperity,» he has maintained.
In this sense, he stressed that Ukrainians «need and deserve support» from the European bloc and said that he will discuss with Zelenski and other senior officials of the country «what concrete measures can be developed» to strengthen this support in the face of Russia’s offensive.
