The Netherlands has been open to sending ‘Leopard’ tanks to Ukraine as part of a coalition formed by European and NATO allies after Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski pressed for the supply of these vehicles.
In an interview with Bloomberg from the Swiss city of Davos, Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren has assured that it is «definitely» something they would be willing to do, as the country has already announced a military aid package to Kiev, especially loaded with heavy weaponry and T-72 tanks.
«We are all waiting to hear what the German position on this is, but I am in favor of trying to find a solution and sending tanks to Ukraine,» she has expressed after both Poland and Finland announced their readiness for this joint action, which has to be approved by Berlin.
Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba and Defense Minister Oleski Reznikov urged countries such as Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Norway and Spain, among others, to join the international coalition initiative to supply battle tanks to Kiev.
The presidents of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, who also support the measure, are confident that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will end up giving the ‘green light’ at the meeting of the defense chiefs of the countries militarily supporting Ukraine at the German base in Ramstein on Friday.
