Nigerian authorities confirmed Thursday the release of the last hostages still being held by the perpetrators of a January 9 attack on a train station in Edo state (south).
Edo Secretary for Communication Chris Nehikhare said the last two hostages were rescued by security forces and said two local leaders have been arrested for their alleged connection to the incident.
«The success story in the kidnapping is that seven people, including two local leaders, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are assisting with investigations,» he said, Nigerian news agency NAN reported.
The attack, for which no claim of responsibility has been made, was carried out by armed individuals who abducted more than 30 people who were waiting for a train to arrive. The incident also resulted in several injuries, although there were no fatalities.
