U.S. congressmen on Wednesday pressed the Biden Administration to provide more weapons from Ukraine to enable the European country to defend itself against Russia’s invasion.

The House chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Michael McCaul, and the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Republican Mike Rogers, have called on the U.S. government to provide «critical weapons systems» to Ukraine to defeat Russian troops, according to a statement.

«The current hesitation by the Biden Administration and some of our European allies to provide critical weapons systems to Ukraine reeks of the weak policies of 2021, such as not sanctioning ‘Nord Stream 2’ or providing U.S.-origin Stingers (missiles) before the full-scale invasion,» the joint missive reads.

McCaul and Rogers have advocated that while those policies failed to deter conflict, the current indecision and self-deterrence could lead to prolonged conflict in Ukraine, costing lives.

«Now is the time for the Biden and Scholz administrations to follow the lead of our allies in the United Kingdom and Eastern Europe: Leopard 2 tanks, ATACMS (missiles) and other long-range precision munitions must be approved without delay,» the congressmen have assured.

In that vein, Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz has urged the Biden Administration to provide longer-range munitions to her native Ukraine as the country’s war slowly approaches a full year of battle.

«The next six months will be critical to the brutal war in Ukraine and longer-range capabilities will be crucial to its success,» Spatz has remonstrated in a statement, asserting that the Executive must be «proactive» for a change and «provide adequate security assistance to the Ukrainian Army.»

Spartz, a native of Ukraine, has asked the White House to provide Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Multiple Launch System (GMLRS) or Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) munitions.

«What these capabilities would do is help the Ukrainian Army better defend its cities in eastern Ukraine, where the Russian military has withdrawn its artillery to a ‘safe’ distance in the occupied Ukrainian territories,» Spartz has concluded in his statement.
