Lithuanian authorities said Friday that they will deliver helicopters and air defense systems to Ukraine amid a surge in international military aid to the country after nearly a year of war.
Defense Minister Arvydas Anasauskas said the country will supply two Mi-8 helicopters and several L-70 short-range missile air defense systems in an aid package valued at about 125 million euros.
The Lithuanian Army has a total of three Soviet-made helicopters and three European ‘Dauphin’ helicopters acquired almost a decade ago. Now, the government is considering the purchase of four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
Anusauskas indicated in December that the country had delivered to Kiev aid amounting to 240 million euros and including armaments, ammunition and drones, among others. In addition, the country has collaborated in the training of Ukrainian military personnel.
