The Russian government announced Friday the seizure of the Ukrainian town of Lobkove, located in the Zaporiyia region, and confirmed that on Thursday Russian forces also seized the town of Klischivka, in the Donetsk region.
«In the direction of Zaporiyia, the locality of Lobkove has been liberated by the successful offensive actions of the units of the Eastern Military District,» Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said, Russian news agency TASS reported.
He also pointed out that Kischivka «was liberated by volunteers of assault detachments with fire support of tactical and military operational aviation, missiles and artillery from the Southern Military District». The seizure of this locality had been confirmed hours earlier by the pro-Russian authorities in Donetsk.
In fact, Konashenkov’s announcement comes a day after the oligarch and founder of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, indicated that mercenaries had taken control of the locality, which he described as «one of the most important suburbs of Bakhmut.» The town of Bakhmut has become one of the hottest spots in the conflict in Ukraine.
