The Russian Foreign Ministry has criticized the «hypocrisy» exhibited by the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, who had criticized this week «anti-Semitic» statements made by the head of the Russian portfolio, Sergei Lavrov.
Borrell criticized Lavrov on Thursday for his recent statements that Washington has formed a Western «coalition» to «solve the Russian question» in a manner similar to Adolf Hitler’s «final solution» to exterminate the Jews.
The head of European diplomacy noted that these words «add to Minister Lavrov’s previous anti-Semitic remarks», while criticizing Moscow’s «manipulation of the truth» «to justify its illegal war of aggression».
In response, Russia accuses Borrell of engaging in an exercise of «hypocrisy» after reminding him of statements in which he divided the world into a «flower garden» inhabited by «a billion EU and US citizens» and the «jungle» advancing on it, in reference to the bloc’s rivals.
Borrell made these statements last year and they were met with criticism from countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which went so far as to summon the acting head of the EU mission in the country, Emil Paulsen.
The Foreign Ministry recalled Russia’s call in relation to Europe to fight «anti-Semitism, Russophobia and other manifestations of discriminatory policies against certain nationalities and ethnic groups,» according to the statement carried by the TASS agency.
