The Russian and Ukrainian defense ministries have confirmed heavy fighting in recent hours in the Zaporiyia region where, according to British Army surveys, they have built up a large number of forces in recent days and could become in a matter of hours a main battle front in the Ukrainian war.

According to the Kremlin, at least 85 Ukrainian servicemen were reportedly killed in Russian offensives in the last 24 hours in this area of southeastern Ukraine, according to military spokesman General Igor Konashenkov.

«As many as 85 Ukrainian servicemen, an infantry fighting vehicle, two armored fighting vehicles and a pickup truck have been destroyed in a single day,» he explained, in statements picked up by the Russian agency TASS.

Ukraine, on the other hand, has reported the death of more than thirty Russian servicemen during an operation of the Kiev forces to repel Moscow’s advance, which they have declared unsuccessful.

According to the Ukrainian Army General Staff, «while Russian propagandists are capturing Zaporiyia in their imagination,» Ukrainian forces «calmly and confidently destroy the enemy’s equipment and manpower,» according to a statement carried by Ukrinform.
