The jihadist organization Al Shabaab launched an attack on Sunday against the regional government headquarters in the Somali capital Mogadishu, the group announced and the Somali news portal Goobjoog confirmed.
The attack began with the detonation of at least one car bomb and was followed by a shooting raid on the government headquarters of the Banadir region, of which Mogadishu is part, in the Hamar Weyne neighborhood, near the old city.
Sources of the Somali portal Garowe on Line confirmed that the attack was specifically aimed at the mayor of the capital, Yusuf Hussein Jimale Madale, who was not in his office at the time of the assault.
According to Goobjoog’s sources, the attack has already claimed casualties but the security forces have not yet commented on the matter.
