The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry believes that all preparations are ready to receive the expected Leopard tanks but there are still doubts among international allies about how to make the announcement, according to the agency’s spokesman, Andrii Yusov.
«The common position of the partners on the necessity of Ukraine’s victory has already been formed, and for this we definitely need tanks, including Leopard 2 tanks,» Yusov let it be known in statements to RBC-Ukraine.
This past Saturday, the German magazine ‘Der Spiegel’ reported that the new German Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, could be able to send 19 Leopard model 2A5 to Ukraine, older than the Leopard 2 also in possession of the German Army, should Berlin finally decide to expand its assistance, according to an inventory collected by the German media.
According to the German weekly, these 2A5 tanks are used as targets for firing exercises for the more modern versions, although they are still perfectly serviceable.
