Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Monday called the possibility of the European Union imposing a tenth package of sanctions against Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine a «big mistake».
For the Hungarian minister, sanctions only «lead Europe into a dead end,» whether «economically, politically or from the point of view of security» in the region. «It would be a big mistake to present another package of sanctions,» he said in a message posted on Facebook.
On January 17, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen declared that the EU is ready for a tenth package of sanctions against Russia. According to Von der Leyen herself, these new restrictions would focus on making some nuances and establishing consequences for those who circumvent such measures.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has indicated that the tenth package of sanctions could include restrictions on the Russian energy company Rosatom and the entire Russian nuclear industry.
